is this all there is to life? Is there nothing more than this?

When I was of pre-teen age I remember a time hearing  my parents argue, shouting loudly at each other was something that happened regularly. I remember sitting there downstairs watching TV and this time all of a sudden everything seemed to disappear. It was if I was now sitting in a room by myself that was absolutely quiet. Then a voice which I assumed were my thoughts said loud and clear "IS THIS ALL THERE IS TO LIFE? IS THERE NOTHING MORE THAN THIS?" and then a second or two later everything came rushing back. The TV was again blaring, a measure taken to drown out the sound of my parents who were still shouting in the background.

Somehow for those few brief seconds questions become larger than life: "Is this all there is to life? Is there nothing more than this?"

My life would be different from then on. I didn't know it yet but I would now make choices that would slowly begin to change how I experienced life for the better.

I was no longer comfortable accepting the idea that life had to be a struggle with little more to look forward to than working, eating, arguing and sleeping.

From then on I continued to nourish a seed that had been planted and would always have me asking, "How can I make life an adventure?" and "What else can I learn about myself and life that I am not aware of right now?"

I remember Helen Keller once said "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing", and she was blind! So I figured what was my excuse? Like you I didn't have one, nobody does. Some people will say "Fear; I'm afraid to try new things" Yes but as soon as you face that fear, you realize it only has power over you if you allow it to by staying stuck and under-satisfied in your life. Or you can wake up like I did one day saying "enough is enough, it's time to really live life" and then get active in events that will help you do just that!

Event: The FireWalk Experience

"Many thanks to Terry and Zsuzsa for guiding me through the FireWalk experience. I went to the FireWalk determined to complete the walk and came from it with much more than just the walk itself.

I truly came to understand I was there not just for a physical challenge of walking over hot coals but a spiritual journey of letting go of the negative influences in my life by writing them on paper and symbolically burning them in the fire that later I would walk on.

One of the key influences I found that assisted me in completing the FireWalk was one of the meditation classes I attended, presented and guided by Terry Hodgkinson. The class focused on positive words that left me with the feeling of more inner positivity. I used the verbal encouragement both that Terry and Zsuzsa gave for my mindset to walk around the circle of hot coals and then eventually I found myself walking right across them. To reassure myself that I actually did it I crossed over them a second time. Wow!!

What an experience. I came away from it feeling positive and accomplished, ready to take on whatever challenges were to come my way.

If you ever want to become energized and feel positively empowered and encouraged, I recommend that you participate in a FireWalk!

Thank you Terry and Zsuzsa."

Sincerely,

Lezley Martin

The next FireWalk Experience will be held Saturday September 21st.  Early registration will guarantee you a spot.

What is Buddhism?

An article by Terry Hodgkinson

Is Buddhism a Religion?

Is Buddhism a Philosophy?

Is Buddhism a Cognitive Science?

I had my own opinion on the matter of these questions and wanted to hear what Dr. Lancaster had to say, having devoted a huge chunk of his life to the study of Buddhism.

In his 90 minute talk that came with an array of slides full of pictures and graphs he shared with us that his research has shown Buddhism fits...
