 Albert Einstein was by no means the only great mind to use visualization. Many of history's inventors, artists and Olympians attribute their success to an exceptional ability to visualize. Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Henry Ford and the great composer Chopin all claimed to have used creative visualization to spark their imaginations. The great Zen Master Hakuin healed his ailing body using the Butter Egg Visualization Meditation. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps knows a thing or two about how to come out on top as he holds the record for the most gold medals won over a career. In his training regiment he knows his success is all about "how" he practices visualizing the race. 

Visualization uses your internal perceptions to create specific visualized scenarios. Creative visualization, otherwise known as guided imagery, uses language to transport individuals out of their current space and into a new space of inner calm, peace, and tranquility. A natural byproduct of creative visualization occurs when the muscles go loose and limp, thereby creating the relaxation response. Creative visualization can have a purpose in training the subconscious mind for a better result.

Hakuin's Butter Egg Meditation - Guided Meditation

In this meditation session Terry Hodgkinson shares the wisdom of seventeenth century Zen master Hakuin Ekaku, commonly referred to simply as Hakuin. It is said that this very meditation was used to revive Hakuin himself. During a period of intense Zen practice, he neglected the health and harmony of his body and became quite sick. He sought out his teacher and spiritual master named Hakuyu who was a hermit. Hakuyu the hermit was primarily Taoist and he taught Hakuin the Butter Egg Visualization Meditation so that he could bring his body back into balance and heal. It wasn't long after this that Hakuin had a true experience of enlightenment and later would become known as the most elevated Zen master in Japan. In this meditation Terry guides you through the meditation that Hakuin himself practiced from his Taoist teacher.
