The Tao of Inner Outer You Harmony

"Today different ethnic groups and different nations come together due to common sense.

- Dalai Lama

That's a great point the Dalai Lama makes above regarding living together without prejudice. Let's see what the Dalai Bear has to say about this:

Well there you have it! Under the flesh we are all the same, and apparently to a bear we all taste the same too. So what makes us seem different then? I propose that it's what's in our mind (how we think or don't think) that makes us different. The way we think and relate to others is what creates the walls between us, or crumbles existing walls down giving us a chance at getting to know one another.

This is why I do the work that I do. Whether it's martial arts instruction, meditation,  personal coaching,  hypnotherapy, seminars or the international retreats I lead, for me it's all about knocking down walls and helping people understand what's most important for them in life. A friend of mine recently has been reading a classic book called The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven R. Covey. I read the book ages ago and was so impressed by it that I put a lot of its wisdom into our instructors' training courses in our martial arts schools. My friend said "As I read this book you know what impacted me the most? (By the way my friend is a very successful entrepreneur for many years now.) I asked him "What"? He said, "The part in the book where Steven Covey says "I've never met one person who on their death bed said, 'Oh if I could just spend one more day of work I'd be so happy!'"

So what have you done lately that has opened your mind up, ignited your passion and brought more meaning and enjoyment to your life? How about reading the rest of my newsletter and maybe you will find something that can help out. Just bear in mind what the Dalai said...at the end we are all the same. So the only thing that is going to make a difference is how one thinks!

To your health and well-being,

Terry Hodgkinson

Did you know that just last week the FDA approved the use of the powerful and frequently abused painkiller OxyContin for children as young as 11 years old. All this will accomplish is teaching children that they are powerless against pain, that their mind cannot handle or overcome it as well as it can create the future opportunity for drug addiction.

In an article called, 'Treating Chronic Pain with Meditation" by Brian Steiner he says,
"In hundreds of studies conducted over the past decade, researchers have examined meditation’s effects on people, such as attention regulation, awareness of the body, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and addiction. Scientists have also studied the use of meditation as a treatment for pain. In these studies, meditation has been shown to help pain, sometimes significantly..." Another important point he makes in the article is this,

“It worked for beginners,” he said excitedly. It seems a patient does not need to be a zen master of 10 years to reap the rewards of the practice."

If you have been to my meditation sessions you know I have always said meditation should be taught in all schools from as early on as possible. But why is OxyContin being prescribed instead? In my opinion it's because we live in a world that is driven by the all mighty $$ rather than the what the true incentive should be on, the longevity of our health and well-being! When people learn to meditate they can practice it on a regular basis and thus improve their own health without having to spend money. This is something that most likely goes against big pharma companies and their shareholders mission statements...to be as profitable any way they can!

I'm not saying meditation is a cure for everything but it certainly has shown to be an important beneficial practice and aid for the mind and body and I'm certain with time science will continue to reveal more health advantages in the practicing of it.

When you speak do people listen? Or an even better question is do people respond positively?

Learn How to Speak with Power & Passion!

I recently spoke at a good friends funeral. When I was finished and sat back down the priest got back up and said to everyone. "You'll need to remember the 11th commandment." We all looked at each other bewildered and I'm sure thinking to our selves 'I thought there were only 10 commandments?'  "Shall I go over it for everyone?" The priest said.  "The 11th commandment goes like this - thou shall not speak more elegantly than me!" and we all gave out a chuckle. Being able to speak elegantly comes with the understanding of how to present your points for the maximum effect and of course...practice.

In this 2.5 hour seminar I will show you how to:

1. Inspiration: Speak to serve
2. Description: Make it personal
3. Visualization: If you can see it, you can speak it
4. Influence: Learn how to generate passion and make it contagious.
5. Relax: When you make a mistake, no one cares but you
6. Anticipation: Always leave ‘em wanting more.
And much, much more!

Date: Thursday September 17th

Time: 7pm - 9:30pm
