awareness of the world, to learn new skills, to step outside the beaten path and explore and meet unique people and wildlife in places that are truly breathtaking. To have extraordinary life altering experiences with extraordinary people. To come back with more wisdom, inner peace & fulfillment, energy & gratitude than you went with. The Forbidden City in Beijing The Imperial Palace museum aka Forbidden city has been under a major 19 year restoration to bring it back to its former glory. It will be completed entirely in the year 2020, the six hundredth anniversary of its original completion. Here you can see how beautiful the designs are on top of many of the wooden
building entrances. At the heart of the Forbidden City there are three Great Halls built on white marble platforms that are two stories high. To keep rain water away from from the main halls they
carved 1000 marble dragons that are used for water run off away from the Great Halls. On rainy days you can see a thousand dragons like this one in the picture, spitting water. Meeting a Kung Fu Master on Wudang Mountain The Famous Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh Can you imagine hanging out at the nostalgic Beatles ashram in Rishikesh? That's what we did. The
Beatles spent a great deal of time meditating here in 1968. While they were meditating here they also wrote many of the songs for their White Album and Abbey Road Album. The Clock Tower of Chiang Rai You can't miss the famous Clock Tower. At night time at the top of every hour they have a spectacular light show and it changes from colour to colour while traditional Thai music is played. Chiang Rai is Thailand's furthest northern city and is part of the well known Golden Triangle that includes
the countries of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
Visiting Wat Rong Khun or the White Temple in Chiang Rai |
Wat Rong Khun is a unique temple that stands out through the white colour and the use of pieces of glass in the plaster, sparkling in the sun. The white colour signifies the
purity of the Buddha, while the glass symbolizes the Buddha’s wisdom and the Dharma, the Buddhist teachings.
The Wat Rong Khun was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a famous Thai visual artist. To date the temple is not finished. Eventually there will be nine buildings including an ubosot, a hall to enshrine Buddhist relics, a meditation hall, the monks living quarters and an art
gallery.
Baan Dam or Black House Museum, Chiang Rai Baan Dam (Black House) is the unique creation of national artist, Thawan Duchanee. Part art studio, part museum, part home, Baan Dam is an eclectic mix of traditional northern Thai buildings interspersed with some outlandish modern designs. Baan Dam is a thought-provoking combination of sanuk, the
surreal and the sombre.
