 Inner Outer You Insights

,  I had a client return the other day to get coaching/hypnotherapy sessions for smoking cessation. I will call him Peter, although this is not his real name. Peter came in to see me seven years ago for an addiction that was destroying his life. In my session with him just a few days ago he said that back then he thought his life was over. He lost interest in everything, even the things he cherished most in life because of his addiction. He felt close to the end of his rope as the light from his life was almost entirely gone. Peter was addicted to crack cocaine and he knew he needed help badly. He never thought he was the type of person that this could happen to. He always thought his friends were crazy for doing stuff like that. Then one day, when he was feeling down on himself he said "what the heck I'll give it a try." and that was it, he was hooked from then on. When he had come in to see me seven years ago he was in a total mess. His wife had left him, he was out of work and he had lost the support of many of his friends and family.

Peter came to my office, Positive Changes Hypnosis and Coaching because he had heard about our reputation as no nonsense professional coaches and that we used not only coaching but also hypnotherapy as part of the healing process. In seven years Peter has never looked back, he has broken his addiction and he has never touched crack cocaine ever again!

At my office we have treated many people for various addictions: some are ready to make the change while others are not. If a person is ready to turn their life around and they have the proper support they need, i.e. conscious support in the form of lifestyle coaching as well as sub-conscious support in the form of hypnotherapy, then what seems like miracles can happen. As another client and friend of mine Randy Clusu said when he was interviewed on CBC radio this week, "it all starts in the mind, if you want to make a change you have to have the right way of thinking first!" Randy should know, he was addicted to food and once weighed 350 lbs. Today Randy weighs only 180 lbs and enjoys kick boxing, something that was a mere dream only a few years ago!  You can read Randy's testimonial below.

"In January 08 I weighed 350 lbs; I had no energy, low self esteem and was quite unhappy with my life. I new I needed to do something at 32 years old I was on a slippery slope that was leading to diabetes and many other health problems.

Discouraged because of all of the fad diets I tried with no success, always seeming to gain back more weight than I lost. I was looking for help and direction. I knew Terry for quite some time on a personal level and knew he had a successful practice of helping people with different problem so I cried out for help in desperation. Terry was amazing, he took the time to teach me several important things about diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. After spending time with me I felt empowered and encouraged for the first time in a long time to do something, so I implemented all of his recommendations and amazingly I had more energy and felt better than I have in many years. I started losing weight fast, I was so encouraged by Terry's support and the results I was getting I continued on till the end of the year. I am so glad the Terry took the time to help me get started and to continue to motivate me along the way, i know i never would have been able to do it without him. After twelve months with my new lifestyle I lost 120 pounds, I went from a size 50 pants to size 34 but most of all I feel so energetic, healthy and am really enjoying life for the first time in a long time.

Thanks Terry",

4 Scientific Studies on how Meditation can Affect your Heart, Brain and Creativity
Break Free and Live Free

"We live in an incredibly busy world. Our pace of life is often frantic, our minds are always busy, and we're always doing something," says Andy Puddicombe at the TEDSalon London Fall 2012.

"The sad fact is that we're so distracted that we are no longer present in the world in which we live. We miss out on the things that are most important to us. The crazy thing is, people assume that's just the way life is. But that's not really how it has to be."

In this talk, Andy Puddicombe - shares the fascinating story of how he become a monk, and gives a convincing argument for why it is worth it to take 10 minutes a day to refresh the mind.

A Monk and a Ninja Meet in Darjeeling, India

This is where I met my new friend Tenzin Choden. I don't know why but no matter where I go I seem to attract the friendship of monks. It might be as the Tea Leaf Reader from Canada told me 13 years ago, or The Stomach Who Speaks from China said (I will leave that for another article), that I had been a monk in a previous life. I can believe this as I have always had a natural affinity for the esoteric and spiritual.

Tenzin and I became friends instantly. For the next three days...

While the tire was being fixed we got pretty close to a temple down the hill by the river. It seems that this temple was a mixture of both Hinduism and Buddhism.

I saw the display figure Hanuman, the Hindu monkey God while also watching a Tibetan Buddhist monk doing prostrations (prayers). I had never really seen this before where two faiths shared the same temple, how unique.  After practicing some Qi Qong for a while close by the river...
